Personal Care Through the NDIS:
What It Covers and What Good Support Looks Like in Liverpool

NDIS personal care Liverpool NSW

GoodCare Disability Services | Registered NDIS Provider | Liverpool and Blacktown

Letting someone help you shower is not a small thing. Of all the supports funded under the NDIS, personal care is the most intimate, and it is the one where the difference between an average provider and a good one is felt every single morning.

GoodCare Disability Services delivers NDIS personal care Liverpool NSW and Western Sydney-wide, including Blacktown and surrounding suburbs. We have written this guide for participants and families who are weighing up personal care for the first time, or who have had support before and want it done better.

What counts as personal care under the NDIS?
NDIS personal care Liverpool NSW participants access this through Assistance with Daily Life in the Core Supports budget, which covers NDIS showering and dressing assistance, continence management, medication support, and more. In practice it covers showering and bathing, dressing and undressing, grooming, oral hygiene, toileting and continence support, help with eating and drinking, and getting in and out

of bed safely. Where a participant uses a hoist, transfer board or other equipment, the support worker is trained to use it correctly.

Some participants need an hour in the morning. Others need assistance at several points across the day, or active overnight support. The NDIS funds what isreasonable and necessary for your situation, worked out during planning and recorded in your plan.

The part most providers do not talk about
Here is something families tell us repeatedly: the hardest part of personal care is not the task; it is the turnover. When a different stranger arrives every week, the participant has to explain their routine again, their preferences again, their body again. That is exhausting, and for many people it is humiliating.
So when you compare providers in Liverpool, the question to ask when finding the best personal care provider Liverpool has is not "do you provide personal care?" Every provider says yes. Ask instead: how many different workers will attend in a typical month? What happens when my regular worker is sick or on leave? Will I meet a worker before they start? Can I request a change if the match is not right?

GoodCare matches each participant with a personal care support worker Liverpool and Western Sydney teams know well, then rosters a small, consistent team. We introduce workers before they start, we match for language and cultural background where we can, and if a participant or family asks for a change, we make the change without making them justify it.

Personal care for participants with higher needs

Some daily personal activities NDIS Western Sydney participants require involve clinical complexity: bowel care, catheter management, PEG feeding, pressure injury prevention, or support delivered alongside a behaviour support plan. The NDIS treats these as high-intensity daily personal activities, and they require workers with specific training and supervision.

GoodCare supports participants with high-intensity needs across Western Sydney. Our workers complete the relevant high-intensity support training, and our nursing team oversees clinical tasks, reviews documentation, and stays in contact with the participant's GP and allied health professionals where consent is given.

How is personal care funded?
NDIS personal care Liverpool NSW is drawn from the Core Supports budget, which is the most flexible part of an NDIS plan. If you are NDIA-managed, you will generally need a registered provider. GoodCare is registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, so participants under any management type, agency-managed, plan-managed or self-managed, can use our services.

If you are not sure whether your current plan has enough funding for the personal care you need, we can look at your plan with you and give you a straight answer before any service agreement is signed.

Why Liverpool families choose GoodCare
We are based at Level 1, 244 Macquarie Street in Liverpool, not in a call centre interstate. Our coordinators know the local hospitals, the local allied health practices, and the realities of getting support workers to Casula, Prestons, Green Valley and Lurnea at 6.30 in the morning. Local knowledge sounds like a small thing until your provider does not have it.

F.A.Q

Can I choose the gender of my support worker for personal care?

Yes. Preferences about worker gender for personal care are reasonable and routine. Tell us during intake and we will roster accordingly.

Does the NDIS pay for personal care every day of the week?

It can, including weekends and public holidays, if that level of support is reasonable and necessary for you. Weekend supports are billed at the rates set out in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements.

What if I only need help a few mornings a week?

That is common. Personal care is not all-or-nothing, and plenty of our Liverpool participants have two or three short shifts a week built around work or study.

Can personal care be combined with other support in the same visit?

Often, yes. A morning shift might cover showering and dressing, then breakfast preparation and a tidy of the kitchen. Bundling tasks into one visit usually makes better use of your funding.

How quickly can GoodCare start?

For standard personal care we can usually complete intake and start within one to two weeks. Complex or high-intensity support

takes a little longer because we will not start a service until the right training and clinical oversight are in place.
